Getting started
What is Appcrest?
A dashboard for indie developers on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It brings your apps, App Store submissions, TestFlight feedback, Apple Ads campaigns, and download and sales reports into one place, surfaces wins (milestones, momentum, review streaks), and runs deterministic recommendations over the same data — each with its evidence and a link to fix it.
It is local-first: there is no Appcrest server and no Appcrest account. The app talks to Apple's APIs directly, with your own credentials.
Do I have to connect anything to try it?
No. Appcrest opens in demo mode — a complete, deterministic demo portfolio with every screen working. Choose Explore demo during onboarding, or switch to Demo in Settings any time. Connect your own credentials only when you want your real data.
What do I need for live data?
Two sets of credentials, both issued by Apple to you:
- App Store Connect API key — issuer ID, key ID, and the .p8 private key, from App Store Connect → Users and Access → Integrations. Add your vendor number to include sales reports.
- Apple Ads API credentials — client ID, team ID, key ID, org ID, and private key, from your Apple Ads account. Optional: skip it if you don't run ads.
The app walks you through both in the Key Setup Guide, step by step with screenshots of where each value lives.
Keys & data
Where do my keys live?
In your device's Keychain, marked synchronizable, so your own iCloud Keychain (end-to-end encrypted by Apple) carries them to your other devices. They are never written into the report cache, never included in widgets or notifications, and never sent anywhere except directly to the Apple API they authenticate against.
Each key can be checked, replaced, or deleted individually in Settings. Deleting a key removes it from your Keychain.
Where does my report data live? Does it sync?
Reports are cached on-device. With the iCloud sync toggle on, the cache mirrors through your own private iCloud database so your iPhone, iPad, and Mac stay in step. That's Apple's CloudKit — the data lives in your Apple ID and isn't readable by anyone else, including me.
Sync isn't instant; it moves when the system decides to move it. If a device looks behind, foreground the app and give it a moment.
Does Appcrest ever change my App Store Connect account?
Syncing only reads: reports, metadata, submissions, feedback. The one write path is deliberate — if you explicitly apply a listing change that Appcrest drafted (say, updated promotional text), it submits exactly the change shown, using your key. Nothing is ever written without you tapping it.
How do I delete my data?
- Cached reports — Settings → Clear cache removes cached reports, wins, recommendations, and sync history. Credentials stay.
- Keys — delete each credential in Settings; it is removed from your Keychain.
- iCloud copy — remove Appcrest under Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
Deleting the app removes the local copy.
The AI evaluator
Is there AI in this app? What does it see?
There's an optional evaluator you can point at an app to get a written read on its listing and numbers. It only runs when you start it, and you choose the provider in Settings:
- On-device — Apple's Foundation Models. Nothing leaves your device.
- Private Cloud Compute — Apple's stateless cloud models, under Apple's Private Cloud Compute guarantees.
- Claude — bring your own Anthropic API key. The evaluation conversation, including the portfolio data the model asks its tools for, goes to Anthropic's API under your account.
Skip all three and the rest of the app works exactly the same — wins and recommendations are deterministic rules, not AI.
Numbers
Why don't the numbers match App Store Connect exactly?
Apple's reports trail real time, and different reports trail by different amounts — Appcrest shows what Apple has published, as of the last sync.
Apple Ads metrics are always shown as reported, never recomputed. Anything Appcrest derives itself — median CPA comparisons, portfolio conversion, source share — is explicitly labeled an estimate.
Something's broken
Email tyler@tylerfit.ch and include:
- Your device and OS version
- The app version (Settings → About)
- What you were doing, and what happened instead
- A screenshot, if it's something you can see
It's one person answering, so give it a day or two. Reports with a screenshot get fixed fastest.
